Best Sleeping Tips for Sciatica Relief

By September 28, 2026No Comments2 min read

Hi guys. Dr. Lovett, Lovett Family Chiropractic Wellness Center. I wanna take just a couple minutes and talk to you about a few tips for sleeping when you have sciatica.

If You’re Sleeping on Your Side

The first one is, if you’re laying on your side, take a pillow and put it between your knees. I’ll show you what that looks like. It should look just like this.

If you have a pillow here, it’ll keep your knees nice and parallel with your hips, ’cause your hips are a lot wider than your knees. You need something to keep everything parallel, and make sure you keep a nice natural curve in your back. You don’t want to be slumped forward when you’re sleeping.

If You’re Sleeping on Your Back

The next one, and this is preferable, is to put a couple of pillows behind your knees if you’re sleeping on your back. I’ll show you what that looks like.

If you put a couple of pillows behind your knees just like this, that’ll take some of the stress off your back, ’cause if our legs don’t have support like this, it can cause a lot of tension in the back and in the sciatica. So those pillows behind the knees will definitely help if you’re laying on your back.
